Removal

All vehicles
  1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
    For additional information, refer to: Battery Disconnect and Connect (414-01 Battery, Mounting and Cables, General Procedures).
  1. Raise and support the vehicle.
    For additional information, refer to: Lifting (100-02 Jacking and Lifting, Description and Operation).
Vehicles with diesel engine

  1. Remove the charge air cooler intake hose.
All vehicles

  1. Disconnect the transaxle electrical connectors and detach the wiring harness from the wiring harness bracket.

  1. Remove the transaxle wiring harness bracket from the transaxle.
    • Detach the fluid cooler pipes from the bracket.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Plug the fluid cooler pipes to prevent oil loss or dirt ingress.
    Detach the fluid cooler pipes from the transaxle.
    • Allow the fluid to drain into a suitable container.

  1. Remove the fluid pan retaining bolts.

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Do not damage the transaxle fluid pan.
    Using the special tool, remove the transaxle fluid pan.
    • Slide the special tool around the profile of the pan.

Installation

All vehicles
  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Make sure that the fluid pan and transaxle case mating faces are clean and oil free.
    Clean all mating faces using metal surface cleaner.

  1. Apply a 5 mm diameter bead of sealant to the inside edge of the fluid pan mating face.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Tighten the fluid pan retaining bolts evenly working diagonally.
    Install the fluid pan.

  1. Attach the fluid cooler pipes to the transaxle.

  1. Install the transaxle wiring harness bracket to the transaxle.
    • Attach the fluid cooler pipes to the bracket.

  1. Attach the transaxle wiring harness to the wiring harness bracket and connect the transaxle electrical connectors.
Vehicles with diesel engine

  1. Install the charge air cooler intake hose.
All vehicles
  1. Lower the vehicle.
  1. Fill the transaxle with automatic transmission fluid.

  1. Connect the battery ground cable.
    For additional information, refer to: Battery Disconnect and Connect (414-01 Battery, Mounting and Cables, General Procedures).
  1. Check the transmission fluid level.
    For additional information, refer to: Transmission Fluid Level Check (307-01B Automatic Transmission/Transaxle - Vehicles With: 5-Speed Automatic Transmission (5F31J), General Procedures).
  1. Initialize the door window motors.
    For additional information, refer to: Door Window Motor Initialization (501-11 Glass, Frames and Mechanisms, General Procedures).
